Mr Thunder Alexander Kartveli

“Mr. Thunder,” https://www.alexanderkartveli.com/ Alexander Kartveli (Aleksandre Kartvelishvili), arrived in the United States in 1927 as a penniless immigrant aircraft designer. Born in 1896 in the Tbilisi and trained as an artillerist, he managed to emigrate to France after the Civil War where he worked on the Bernard 191GR. Once he made it to America, he helped create the Seversky P-35, Republic’s P-47 Thunderbolt, F-84 Thunderjet, F-84F Thunderstreak, and F-105 Thunderchief– among other– before designing his masterpiece: the Fairchild A-10 Thunderbolt II. He passed in California in 1974.
