April 12, 1945 – “The youngest guerrilla in the Philippines is Ponciano ‘Sabu’ Arida of Santa Maria, Laguna, Luzon. He is eleven years old and has five Japs to his credit. He is attached to the 1st Bn., 103rd Inf. Regt., 43rd Div. He is a member of the ‘Marking’ guerrilla forces.”
Really wish there are a lot more details of his life during and beyond WW2 …
Family of Sabu is my kababarrio here in Alaminos Laguna. I did not know he’s from Sta Maria, Laguna. My lola used to tell me stories about Sabu’s bravery.
