The Bridge and Island crew of HMS illustrious has a remarkably close call on 6th April 1945 when a kamikaze attack plane scored the thinnest of glancing blows with its wing tip ripping the ray dome just forward of the Bridge with the plane spinning into the sea causing no casualties to the crew
