Royal Research Ship (RRS) William Scoresby in pack ice, Beascochea Bay, Argentine Islands, off the West coast of Graham Land, Antarctica. The photograph appears to have been taken during the Second Wilkins-Hearst Antarctic Expedition of 1929-1930, when an attempt was made to fly over the South Pole by plane. The Lockheed seaplane used by H. Wilkins can be seen secured on the afterdeck of the ship.
