HMS Arethusa damage control lessons learned poster
Arethusa in particular survived a hit that should have sent her to the bottom. In 1942, an Italian torpedo below B turret blew a 53 by 35 feet hole in her side. The ship caught fire from A turret back to the bridge and flooded to the waterline for 100 feet back from the bow, but survived. In the end, the Norwegians never picked her up, and she was instead scrapped in 1950.
