The CSA45 is a fresh breath in pistol caliber carbines

While it may appear AR-15ish, the Flint River Arms CSA45 only appears that way. The trigger group is fully interchangeable with AR-15 series triggers, AR surface controls and grips are maintained for familiarity and the adjustable buttstock uses an AR buffer, but that is where the similarities end.

Charley Groves, president of FRA, me the CSA45 (Carbine Short Action) began with a clean sheet design that started off as a sketch on the back of a napkin four years ago.

The CSA45 uses a single billet 6061 T-6 monolithic lower with a left-side charge upper to produce a very handy little carbine. The short-stroke gas-piston system uses two o-rings and runs extremely clean, with test guns running several thousand rounds without hiccups induced due to fouling. As far as internals go, the CSA45 utilizes a rotating four-lug bolt.

It’s short, it’s very clean, and it does exactly what it is supposed to.

Meet the Carbine Semi-Automatic .45ACP, or CSA45

Had a chance to hang out with the guys who make and try to break these.

It only looks like it’s based on an AR.

I’ll have a write up on them soon.
