Quién es? ¿Quién es

Patrick Floyd Jarvis “Pat” Garret was one of the few Old West gunslingers to make the successful move from being on one side of the law to the other, most notable for (possibly) taking out 21-year-old outlaw William H. Bonney, aka Billy the Kid at about 12:30 a.m. on July 14, 1881, when he went to his friend (and former employer) Pedro Menard “Pete” Maxwell’s home in Fort Sumner, New Mexico. The Kid’s infamous last words, spoken as he entered the dimly lit room with Garrett in the shadow, “¿Quién es? ¿Quién es?”(Who is it? Who)

While this brought him notoriety, Garrett moved around a lot for the next 20 years, shifting from job to job until he was tapped by Teddy Roosevelt to be the official Customs Collector for El Paso in 1901– an appointment that triggered an outcry.

This gilt Colt Model 1877 Thunderer was presented to Pat Garrett while in El Paso, Texas, in the early 20th century. As a truly special artifact of the American West, it is among the most desirable of all Colt double-action revolvers.

It is available in the upcoming Rock Island Auction August Premier event in Bedford, Texas, Lot 89. Estimated Price: $130,000 – $190,000.
