Ruger goes Papasha

Ruger has added new PC Carbine models to their catalog including those with free-float handguards and .40 S&W chamberings.

The new models, described by Ruger as adding “improved utility for home defense and competition,” all feature standard black synthetic stocks, 16.12-inch barrels and an interchangeable magazine well system that allows the rifle to accept either Ruger SR-series or Glock mags. Likewise, each has an easy takedown system that allows the short, 34.37-inch Carbine to break down for even more compact stowage.

The biggest difference is in those with the aluminum Magpul M-LOK free float handguard. For multi-state compliance, Ruger also has variants in both the standard and Magpul handguard variants with non-threaded barrels and 10-round magazines.

In my opinion, the handguard looks a lot like the one used on Georgy Shpagin’s PPSh series of SMGs, exemplified by his PPSh-41, which was nicknamed papasha (daddy) due to its designation.

Ruger brings back the old pistol caliber carbine concept

After a decade-long hiatus, Ruger announced last week the return of a pistol caliber carbine series to their catalog with lots of updated features.

The new PC series provides a compact and lightweight carbine aimed at plinkers and the home defense market with a wide-range of magazine well adapters to accommodate a variety of users. The handy takedown carbine ships capable of accepting Ruger SR-series or the new Security-9 series pistol magazines right out of the box, while a Glock 9mm well is included for those who already have a stockpile of those mags. Already have a Ruger American Pistol in 9mm? They offer that magazine well for sale separately.

The gun also has swappable left and right charging handles, a fluted threaded barrel (1/2-inch-28TPI), and lots of other goodies.
