A barge with a crane is on the left side of the image, and a tugboat is behind the submarine in the center of the image. A snow-covered quay with people on it is on the right. A man is walking on a gangplank between the barge and the tugboat, and a small rowboat is next to the submarine. Text reads Foolkiller submarine being raised from river at Wells Street Bridge. For more info on the Foolkiller, there is a 1982 book that is largely made of unobtainaum  and Chicago Unbelievable for whom the foolkiller is like Dr David Bannister to the reporter Jack McGee–always just one set of stretched out jeans too far..

  • Hoax or not, it is obviously something that couldn’t have easily been dropped in the river on a moonless night. Weren’t the bodies of a man and dog found inside? And I’ve been unable to locate any photos/drawings of the inside of it. Could it really be that neither local nor naval historians/archaeologists took any interest in it at all?
