Happy Independence Day, First Navy Jack

First Navy Jack flown by oldest commonioned warship

At sea aboard the now-decommissioned USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) Feb. 15, 2003 — The Navy’s largest First Navy Jack, with the motto “Don’t Tread On Me”, flies high above USS Kitty Hawk during her transit through the Straits of Malacca. Kitty Hawk and embarked Carrier Air Wing 5 (CVW-5) were recently ordered to the Central Command area of responsibility to join coalition forces preparing for possible operations in that area. Kitty Hawk is America’s longest-serving active warship and the world’s only permanently forward-deployed aircraft carrier, operating out of Yokosuka, Japan.
