Here we see a Panhard ERC 90 6×6 Armored Car of the French army during Operation Sangaris in the Central African Republic, 6 Aug 2014. The ERC90 (Engin de Reconnaissance à Canon de 90 mm) “Sagaie” is a 1970s design 6×6 with a hard hitting 90mm gun. These beasts are light and effective off-road, being amphibious when needed. They are lightly armored (about 10mm of steel, but newer versions have Kevlar reinforcement for sprall), which will stop small arms fire and shrapnel. Simple and fast (capable of about 55mph) they are also comparatively lightweight at just 9-tons, or about half the weight of the comparable U.S. M1128  Mobile Gun System.

Capable of fitting in a C-130 and not breaking too many simple bridges in the countryside, its still able to knock out a T-72 main battle tank in a pinch– and can get off the first shot. This means the French use them extensively overseas in low-risk areas (like constabulary missions in Africa) and export them to 3rd World countries around Latin America and Africa. So this Panhard is in its most natural state.
