China has a new pistol, and its completely underwhelming
According to Janes, the world’s largest military force, the Red Chinese People’s Liberation Army, has a new handgun. The hogleg in question carries the designation of the Type 11 pistol. The gun is meant to replace the legacy Type 64 and the Type 77 pistols, both chambered in the proprietary 7.62×17 mm round, which is basically an underpowered, rimless .32ACP FMJ. Now some modern .32’s are OK, but a rimless FMJ download? Come on, who wouldn’t want to replace that bad boy!?
Well, the Chinese are moving to a new 5.8×21 mm. Yup, if you do the ballistics comparison on that little joy, it’s a long cased .228-caliber pistol round that you would consider a match for the West’s FN 5.7x28mm round, only it generates a negligible 250 fps. I’ve seen Nerf balls come out faster than that. I really expected more from PLAN. It’s like they aren’t even trying.
And the gun looks like a pimped out Makarov to boot.
