Everything old is new again, at least as far as Western elite forces go
The news out of the UK is that on Monday 30th November 2015, 16 Air Assault Brigade will re-subordinate under Commander Field Army (CFA) from Joint Helicopter Command (JHC). To mark the occasion 16 Air Assault Brigade will change the Brigade Flash back to the the WWII Pegasus symbol, on a simple dawn parade held on Wednesday 25th November 2015.
This follows about a year in the wake of the U.S. MARSOC was officially re-flagged as the Marine Raiders in honor of the WWII units of Makin Island fame.
But we aren’t done yet!
Italy’s 9º Reggimento d’Assalto Paracadutisti (9th Parachutist Assault Regiment) Col Moschin (“Moschin Hill”), a raider battalion roughly comparable to the U.S. Army Rangers, composes part of the elite Folgore Parachute Brigade. They are ditching their current insignia and going back to the old dagger and oak leaves patch carried by the Arditi units in WWII. More on that here
