En Ferus Hostis

Today the Scots Guards turn 380, formed 16 March 1642 by Charles I. Since then, the Regiment has fought in every major conflict the British Army has seen with distinction.

The moment of crisis shown in the painting came when around 30 French soldiers forced the north gate and entered into the chateau grounds. Their colors are decorated with 93 Battle Honours and its rolls carry the name 11 Victoria Cross recipients.
