Ukrainians jump start an old IS-3 war relic to fight again— or turn into a smoker.
I have to admit, its interesting from a military perspective to see the Ukrainians dust off old museum pieces for their latest greatest hate.
“Today local MacGyvers from Kostiantynivka, Donetsk Peoples Republic have taken WW2 era monument, IS-3 heavy tank and brought it back to life. Good Soviet engineering is still able to serve today, and will serve in fight against Kiev Junta.”
The IS-3 or ‘Stalin’ tank (Object 703) was developed in late 1944 by ChTZ (in Chelyabinsk). With a 122mm main gun and almost five inches of armor, it was a top-notch Tiger or Panther killer late in World War Two. The Soviets retired these beasts in the 1960s and its likely this one hasn’t run since then. And, judging from what we can see here, calling this one ‘running’ is a stretch. Also, its unlikely that rounds could be found for its 122 mm M1931/37 (A-19) gun since the Russkies withdrew them from service when Khrushchev was still around and gave what they did have away to Syria, Egypt, North Vietnam, et al.
