Springfield Armory XD Mod 2 sub-compact now available in .45ACP

Promised a couple months ago, Springer has made good by coming up with possibly their best .45 X.D. compact handgun in the past 15 years when they introduced the Mod 2 in that caliber this week at the annual SHOT Show in Las Vegas.

The Mod 2 is not the first in the line but, when compared to the others, it could very well be the best. Going back through the lineup of guns that are still in production, SA runs the classic X.D. 4-inch Compact. When you say ‘compact’ here, we mean that its shorter when compared to the other guns of its series, and is still 7.3-inches long and some 30-ounces in weight. On the bright side it is a double stack 14-shot firearm when using the Xtension mag.

Then comes the X.D. (M) 3.8 which trims a half inch of overall length and two ounces in weight while keeping the same capacity and adding better ergonomics. Finally, there is the XD-S 3.3 which is much slimmer (at the cost of cutting down the magazine to a 6-pack), a half inch shorter that the 3.8 and tipping the scales at a trim 22-ounces. Now, the Mod 2 goes one better than all of these.

This is the company’s first subcompact .45…and its a 10-shot.

Color it up: Filling the roll marks on your XD

One of the joys of gun ownership is the ability to personalize your firearm. For some this means changing out sites, recoil springs, and other temporary additions that change the mechanics of the gun. For others there are more permanent changes such as stippling  and slide porting which cannot be undone and, if done improperly, damage the firearm. Then there are little cosmetic changes that are pleasing to the eye of the beholder that can do not affect the performance of the gun one bit, but do put a smile on one’s face.

That’s where adding color to the etched roll marks of your XD would fall.

This can really turn a ho-hum black Croatian hog leg into the bell of the ball. After all, there has never been a problem with a little war paint here and there.

XDs Pocket 45

Springfield Armory, in company with the same renowned HS Produkt factory in Europe, had come out with a pocket-carry .45ACP. Dubbed the XD-S, it uses the same action as the proven XD line of short recoil operated semi-automatic pistols in a much smaller profile. When compared to such .45ACP subcompacts on the market as the Glock 36, the XD-S is a lighter, shorter, and most importantly slimmer firearm
